Synopsis: Welcome to Lochdubh.

Meet Hamish Macbeth, a policeman in this small town in Scotland. Hamish is unofficially engaged to Priscilla Halburton-Smythe, who's father manages the Tommel Castle Hotel. Hamish enjoys his life as a low-level official. Priscilla on the other hand encourages Hamish to work towards a Promotion. They each think that the other is being obstinate.

In the course of his duties Hamish visits Drim, a village on his beat, where he meets Peter Hynd who has charmed the women of Drim and upset their men in the process. Macbeth dutifully warns Peter to try to be more discreet. His warning goes unheeded as Peter makes his move on Priscilla. Hamish is not happy with this turn of events.

A short time passes and once again Hamish is visiting Drim. He arrives to find Peter Hynd has put his cottage up for sale and has left town. No one saw him leave and he hasn't been heard from since. Hamish finds this a bit suspicious but officially can do little about it. Immediately following this, a death occurs and Macbeth suspicions grow greater. His superiors close the case labeling it an accidental death. Hamish is not convinced. To satisfy his worries, he decides to take his vacation and solve the mystery on his own.
