Trace • Patricia Cornwell • Book Synopsis
G.P. Putnam's Sons 2004
Dr. Kay Scarpetta is invited back to her 'old stomping grounds' in Virginia. The newly appointed Chief Medical Examiner has asked for her help in an unsolved case involving the death of a fourteen year old girl.
The only things Scarpetta can find are traces of evidence. Hence, the title 'Trace'. The evidence that she is able to scrape together does not help her. What does this young girl have in common with a construction worker killed on the job while razing the old forensic lab where Scarpetta started her career?
With the help of her old friend Marino, a retired detective and her niece Lucy who now runs her own international private investigative firm, Scarpetta uses her unique skills. With only trace evidence she compiles a complete picture. One that involves lives not only in Virginia, but Florida and Colorado as well.
Who would have thought the death of an innocent fourteen year old would touch so many lives?
